Letters to the editor

The blog is one thing, but the widest audience is still the Straits Times. Some of you may know that I very occasionally write letters to the papers and had a couple published over the years. Like most of you, I believed that it was quite difficult to get past the editors, but I usually felt better after I had said my piece even if the letter was not published.

Last week I submitted a letter in response to the Prime Minister’s National Day speech. It was not published, but I received a polite and encouraging letter from one of the editors telling me that as they receive 70 letters a day, space limitation precluded all letters from being published.

To me this was most encouraging as 70 is not a lot. Many of you can write better than me and I suggest that you pelt the editors whenever you have an emotional outburst, just like I do. If you feel that you need some practice, blog it here first !
